Driver Luc Ouellette held the hot hands Friday night at Woodbine as he steered home both winners in the opening leg of the Youthful Pacing Series for three-year-old colts and geldings at Woodbine Racetrack. Count B Series champion Silver Dragon returned from a month’s absence and scored a dominant 1:52.2 victory for Ouellette in the opening $20,000 split. The son of Dragon Again - Fancy Art got away sixth in the early stages and watched as race favourite Bigmizndrstnding put up a soft first half of :57 seconds. Ouellette was not content with the pace and sent his charge up after the lead, taking over command as the field raced into the far turn. After reaching three-quarters in 1:25, Silver Dragon stepped on the accelerator and left the field in his wake with a :27.2 final frame. He was more than five lengths better than Bigmizndrstnding who held second with Egyptian Artist rallying for the show spot. It was the fourth win of the season for the Kevin McMaster trainee and boosted his seasonal bankroll to more than $64,000 for owner David Ratchford of North Sydney, Nova Scotia. Ouellette also guided Pro Art to an upset victory in the second division as he stopped the clock in an identical time of 1:52.2. The son of Artsplace - Town Pro shot straight to the front from post eight and was never headed through fractions of :27.1, :56.1 and 1:24.2. He turned on the jets in the final quarter to hold pocket-sitter The Comedian at bay by just over a length. Heavily favoured Lisfinny sat fourth for much of the mile and moved out to challenge in the third quarter. However, the son of The Panderosa failed to fire and was just able to get up for the show spot. The victory for Pro Art, who is trained by Mark Ford, was his third in just sixth starts this season. It increased his career bankroll to just over $96,000 for owners Dean Davis and James Snyder of Wooster, Ohio. The Youthful Series will continue with second-round action next Friday night at Woodbine. (WEG)
