Overstreet injured at farm

Dr. Luel Overstreet, known for the “Bluegrass” horses he breeds and races, was seriously injured in a farming accident Tuesday (June 6) at his farm in Henderson, Ky. Overstreet, a veterinarian, was hospitalized in the intensive care unit at Community Methodist Hospital in Henderson.

According to Stacey Ruddick of Hoosier Hoofprints, the accident occurred while Dr. Overstreet was baling hay. Due to the fact there were no eye witnesses, exact details of the incident are not available. Dr. Overstreet was apparently using an Auto-stacker, which is used to bundle hay for easier handling and storage, when the accident occurred.
Dr. Overstreet suffered severe lacerations to his face, already requiring two surgeries. In addition, he has a collapsed lung and several broken bones. There is swelling around his esophagus and larynx so he is unable to talk.

Over the years, Dr. Overstreet’s best homebred has been the $1.8 million-dollar winner Dorunrun Bluegrass. He also raced the stakes-winning pacing mare Samshu Bluegrass, a winner of $664,978.
