P-Glide takes on open trotters at Indiana Downs

Millionaire Passionate Glide will kick off her quest for another Breeders Crown title Friday night at Indiana Downs. The Yankee Glide 4 year old has drawn the outside post in the $14,000 open handicap. The mare will be driven by Marcus Johansson in the seventh race on the program.

“We needed a race for her. This will be a good test for her,” trainer Jimmy Takter commented. “We’ll play it by ear a little bit. There are some tough older horses in that race. The goal is to have her as good as possible for the big races.”

On a break since her last start July 28, Takter dropped Passionate Glide in at Indiana Downs before Breeders Crown eliminations next weekend. The conditioner opted for the Shelbyville oval because of its similarity to Mohawk. After one win in eight starts in her first season in the open ranks, Takter said the Breeders Crown and Hambletonian Oaks champion needed a rest.

“She’s been racing pretty well. It’s a big adjustment to step in against top mares. It’s tough out there; there are no easy races anymore,” he noted. “She’s been racing so tough every week, going in :52 and :53 every start.”

Owned by Brittany Farms, Passionate Glide stands less than $25,000 away from $2 million in career earnings. She is one of two mares in this evening’s contest, joining 7-year-old Keep It A Secret mare Secret Star. Garland Lobell stallion Justice Hall, winner of nearly $700,000 for trainer Kevin Thomas, is also entered.
