Champion Passionate Glide returned to action with a victory Friday evening at Indiana Downs, capturing the $14,000 open handicap with a 1:55.2 clocking. The next stop for the Yankee Glide four year old is the Breeders Crown.

Starting from the outside post in a scratch-shortened field of six, Marcus Johansson raced third early after breaks by two key horses at the start. He had planned a different trip with the Jimmy Takter-trained mare, but it quickly changed when the gate folded.

“I was going to race from behind but the good horse broke (Lets Get Serious N) and the inside horse broke (Secret Star) so I had to change strategy,” the driver explained.

Passionate Glide sat the pocket seat behind leader Biggerthebetter through fractions of :28.3 and :58 before Johansson pulled the pocket and made a bid for the lead. Once in front the favorite drew away by two lengths before adding another length at the wire. Lets Get Serious N overcame the early break to finish second while Emale Me was third.

“I didn’t want to get jammed up,” Johansson said. “She felt good. I was a little afraid we went too much too soon. She got a little lazy on me there. We’re just getting her ready for next week.”

Owned and bred by Brittany Farms, Passionate Glide has earned nearly $2 million in her illustrious career.
