PA breeders elect officers

May 18, 2007 Send To A Friend  | Print View

David M. Prushnok of Andray Farms was elected the new president of Standardbred Breeders Association of Pennsylvania (SBAP) at the 2007 annual organizational meeting held on May 14 at Hanover Shoe Farms. Prushnok replaces W. Logan Dickerson of Lindwood Farm, who served as president for two years.

Directors and officers of SBAP include Paul E. Spears (chairman), William Solomon, DVM (vice president), Paul F. Spears (secretary, executive director), Ralph E.Lemmon (treasurer), James W. Simpson, W. Logan Dickerson, George F. Hempt, Max J. Hempt, and John Egloff, DVM.

Prushnok said, “Pennsylvania’s slots program is augmenting racing purses and our new Breeders Award program faster than we could have ever imagined. The Meadows will be opening their temporary slots facility very soon, and we’re hopeful that the question of the fourth harness track license will soon be resolved in the courts. SBAP provides information and assistance to breeders, owners, and horsemen on its informative website at www.standardbredbreederspa.org. SBAP extensively covers PA Sire Stakes and PA Fair racing, provides complete information about the PA Breeders Development Fund, lists PA-eligible stallions and PA boarding farms, and keeps its membership informed about hot issues within the state.

“We’re presently working with the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture to develop a broad marketing program for PA-eligible yearlings," continued Prushnok, "and we’re excited to see the expansion of the Pennsylvania yearling market through the new `PA Preferred' Yearling Sale in August at Harrisburg. One of my major goals as president is to get more people involved with our organization. Right now, participation is mainly from larger breeding farms. Once mare owners start seeing big returns from the PA Breeders Award program, we believe they will become involved to protect and to expand these benefits in the future.” (Standardbred Breeders of Pennsylvania)
