Winbak Farm held its annual Select Sale at its main farm in Chesapeake City, Md., just a stone’s throw from the Chesapeake Bay, on Friday, Oct. 16. The average price paid for a yearling was $7,576, a drop of 13.2 percent from the average of $8,728 posted in 2008. The gross for the 46 head sold was $3,485,000.
The Winbak sale featured yearlings by the Winbak sires, including the popular pacing sires Badlands Hanover and Powerful Toy, and the trotter CR Commando.
A colt by the Jate Lobell stallion Powerful Toy topped the sale, fetching a bid of $27,000 from Louie Paglierani. The colt is the first foal of the Matt’s Scooter daughter Misty Speed, a young, unraced mare who is a sister to Sands A Flyin p,4, 1:50 ($480,436).
