The Delaware Dept. of Agriculture has announced that a Standardbred that was housed at the Dovington Training Center in Felton, Del., has been euthanized after testing positive for the highly infectious equine herpesvirus-1. Although the release did not reveal the training center nor the horse, harnessracing.com has learned the afflicted pacer was the 7-year-old mare Tintabella N, who had not started this year in Delaware but had been competing at Harrah’s Chester, most recently as of Nov. 24, when she finished eighth.

According to Delaware state veterinarian Dr. Heather Hirst, the mare was euthanized four days after test results from the University of Kentucky on Dec. 3 confirmed the horse showed signs of the disease.

Harnessracing.com has also learned the barn which housed Tintabella N has been quarantined. Harrah’s Chester race secretary Rick Kane was contacted and confirmed the mare had been competing at that track, but as of now no extra precautions have been taken.

A daughter of Tinted Cloud, Tintabella N was owned by Glen Del Russo and trainer Daryl Bier. A 20-time winner in 74 career starts, she had earnings of $175,084 and a mark of 1:52.1 set two years ago at Pompano Park.
