Since the Pennsylvania Standardbred Breeders Development Fund would be receiving slot revenue from just one source, Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs, and that source for only the last six weeks of the year, the Pennsylvania Harness Racing Commission has decided to retain the 2006 funds earmarked for the Breeders Fund until next year.

“When fully implemented, the Pennsylvania Standardbred Breeders Development Fund will be regarded as the flagship program in the country,” said Anton J. Leppler, executive xecretary of the PA Harness Racing Commission.

“We feel that launching the Breeders Award with a 'bang’ next year, when Pocono will have contributed a full year’s worth of slot revenue, Chester almost a full year, and The Meadows over a half year, would be much more proper for the world-class program our Harness Breeders Development Fund will become, and therefore we will be adding the final 2006 figure to all the money collected in 2007 and distribute that full amount in 2007 Breeders Awards, based on the racing results of next year.”

The Pennsylvania Harness Racing Commission administers both the Harness Breeders Development Fund and the Sire Stakes in-house. Any questions should go to Sire Stakes/Breeders Fund director Jerry Connors at (717) 787-5539, or deputy director Fonda Civitello at (717) 783-8726. (PA Harness Racing Commission)
