Pa. hopefuls in court

Representatives of Centaur Incorporated and Bedford Downs appeared before the Pennsylvania Supreme Court on Tuesday stated their belief is that the licensing process in the state was flawed and that the Pennsylvania State Harness Racing Commission erred when it denied both entities the chance at the last harness racing license.

The commission earlier stated it had rejected Valley View’s bid to build Valley View Downs in Beaver County because of site problems. Bedford Downs, proposed for Lawrence County, had their license turned down because of allegations that family members had mob ties.

The final harness racing license must be awarded by July 2009.
