The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette newspaper reported on Tuesday that two southwestern Pennsyvlania Democratic legislators plan to push for table games at the state's casinos, plus putting a small number of slot machines at bars, taverns and other establishments with a liquor license.
The two legislators are Rep. Tim Solobay of Canonsburg (the next town over from The Meadows casino and racetrack) and House Democratic Whip Bill DeWeese of Waynesburg, about 40 minutes south of The Meadows.
DeWeese has for several years been pushing to add table games, such as poker, dice and blackjack, to the slot machines already authorized at Pennsylvania casinos. His district borders West Virginia, where there are table games.
The Post-Gazette story said the table game/bar slots bill is expected to be introduced early in the new General Assembly session, which begins in January.
Gov. Ed Rendell has been opposed to adding more gambling in the state until all 14 casinos authorized are up and running and the full impact of those operations is measurable.
