Pantaleano wins 4,000th

Driver Jim Pantaleano reached win number 4,000 in the fourth race at Freehold Wednesday afternoon, guiding trotter American Pick to victory by a neck in 2:01.4.



Pantaleano pulled the 8-1 shot from fifth at the quarter in :29, then raced parked through the half in 1:00 before grabbing the lead and the rail at the three quarters in 1:29.4. American Pick, a 4-year-old gelding by American Winner, held off late rushes by both Armbro Sensible (Daniel Dube), who finished second, and third-best Classic Scent (Mark Beckwith).



Pantaleano, a native of Ohio, came to Freehold in 2005 after many years of driving on the Northfield Park circuit. He first came east in July 2004, driving at Rockingham Park.



The resident of Howell, New Jersey was joined in the winner's circle by his family after the race.



Pantaleano has been driving since 1981 and has over $15 million in purse earnings.
