The Meadows held six divisions of the Pennsylvania Sir Stakes for 2-year-old filly pacers Tuesday night. Fiore Hanover, trained by George Teague Jr., won the first division with driver Dave Palone in 1:55.4. The $16,000 yearling purchase sat third throughout most of the mile, behind Jayne’s Character and Irma La Douce.

Fiore Hanover didn’t like the turns too much, but Palone gently steered this first time starter around the turns, and in the stretch she powered by the leaders to win easily.

The early leader, Jayne’s Character, finished second. Jack Parker Jr. gave Irma La Douce a perfect two-hole trip, but she couldn’t pass anyone in the stretch and settled for third.

The second division was won by the $40,000 yearling purchase Western Graduate and driver Richard Stillings in 1:56.1.

“She caught a nice division and David (Palone) had the horse to beat,” mentioned Stillings. “I really thought my filly was more educated than his (Palone), so I put my filly on the front and got soft fractions.

“I thought in my heart that my filly was the best in here tonight. She might not be in a couple weeks, but she was tonight,” added Stillings.

As the third division was going to the post, heavy rain began to fall and that made for some slower times.

Pacific Classic, driven by Ed Lohmeyer, won the third division, in 1:57.2. Lohmeyer put Pacific Classic on the front and set quarter fractions of :29.1, :59.3, 1:28.1 and came home in :29.1 to stop the timer at 1:57.2. After two solid qualifiers at Tioga Downs, Pacific Classic was more than ready in her first career start for owner Joan Stoddard.

Dragon Flier K sat the pocket trip throughout for driver Don Rothfuss, but a lightning lane trip failed to get her to the winner’s circle. She did hang on for the place spot. Eagle Together used a strong first-over brush for Dave Palone down the backside, but the first time started came up a little short and finished third.

The track was listed as sloppy going into the fourth division. Omen Hanover and driver Dan Dube went right to the lead from post five and held tough through some slow fractions to win, in 1:57.4.

Omen Hanover, who only had two qualifiers at the Meadowlands, set quarter fractions of :28.3, 1:00.2 and 1:29.3 before pacing home in a quick :28.1 to win easily in the fourth division.

Top Shelf Hanover and driver Tony Hall came first-over in her initial start and raced extremely well, holding on for the place spot. Doug Snyder and Goddess’s Angel shot up the lightning lane and took the third spot.

Omen Hanover was purchased for $50,000 as a yearling by the North Woodland Stables.

The fifth division was won by Jerry’s Girl and driver Ben Stafford Jr. Jerry’s Girl used a first-over move and challenged Artsy Blue down the backside to the three-quarter mile marker in 1:27.2. Jerry’s Girl cleared and had the lead around the final turn, but had to deal with Pam’s Character and Mike Wilder. Jerry’s Girl put Pam’s Character away with ease and held off the late close of Bigtime Hanover to win in 1:56.3.

The final division was won by Paint Me Perfect and driver Tony Hall in 1:57.1. Paint Me Perfect, trained by Troy McDougal, left from post position six, then sat a pocket trip and closed in the stretch to win by a neck, over NF Wind Chimes.

"She's trained real well all summer for me. My uncle and aunt raised her and I’ve been training her,” said McDougal.

Trainer McDougal drove in both qualifiers at The Meadows, but Tony Hall drove tonight. “I put myself down to drive originally, but then I talked with Tony (Hall) about driving some of my other babies at Tioga Downs, so I figured I’d put him up tonight,” added McDougal. “His idea was to duck and pick up cover. I said to him (Hall) that the ones you’d follow are the bad ones. He looked it over again and said you’re right, we better give it a shot.” (by Adam Packard for The Meadows)
