Athena Hanover, Lady Annie, Lear Jetta and Idle Hour became Pennsylvania Sire Stakes champions with victories in the $100,000 finals at Harrah’s Athena Hanover, the 9-5 betting favorite, started from post seven and initially took the lead before being joined by Grace N Charlie. Grace N Charlie finally clear in the straightaway and showed the way to the halfway mark in 1:00.1. Driver Cat Manzi was able to wait until past the five-eighths mark to tip Athena Hanover, but once she moved the outcome of the race was never in doubt. Athena Hanover hit the wire in 2:00, easily besting Grace N Charlie and Diamondsonbroadway. Athena Hanover is a daughter of Tagliabue owned by Vincent T. and Geraldine Molloy. Jim Campbell trains the filly. Lady Annie dominated the 2-year-old filly pace and kept her win streak intact at six with a powerful 1:52 performance. The time lowered the 1:52.2 world mark held by Little Miss Dragon and Current Hanover.
Tim Tetrick handled the driving assignment on Lady Annie, a daughter of Allamerican Native, for trainer Steve Elliott and the Perfect World Enterprises.
Lear Jetta, a son of James McAuliffe owns Lear Jetta, who has now won eight of nine starts this season for trainer Robert Myers. The 1:55.3 victory is a new lifetime mark by the colt. The George Teague Jr. Stable took the $100,000 two-year-old colt pace with the Dragon Again colt Idle Hour. It was no easy race for Idle Hour as he got stuck racing first-over while rival and stablemate The Iceman Came set the pace with fractions of :27.1, :56.3 and 1:24.4.
