Four divisions of Pennsylvania Sire Stakes for 2-year-old pacing fillies were contested at The Meadows Tuesday afternoon. The fastest winner was Hasty Pulse, a filly from the first crop of Quik Pulse Mindale. She took the second split in 1:54.1. But offspring from the first crop of another sire, Ponder, also made their presence known.
The first division, worth $73,280, was won by In Deep Thought, a daughter of Ponder. Driven by Tim Curtin, the filly prevailed despite a first-over move that subjected her to a third quarter in :28.2. She was parked to the half (:56.1) and still hadn't cleared at the three-quarter mark ((1:24.3), but dug in and pulled clear to win by 1 1/4 lengths in 1:55.
Bobby Reeser trains In Deep Thought and shares ownership of the filly with Post Time Partners 2009 LLC. The filly went through last year's Lexington Selected Sale, fetching a price of $20,000.
Foxy Lady, a daughter of Real Desire, won the second split, but only by a nose over the Ponder-sired Day To Ponder. Liza's Pride, another Ponder filly, was third. Dave Palone and Ron Burke teamed up on this filly for the victory. Burke Racing Stable bought the filly for $18,000 at last year's Harrisburg sale.
The third split showcased Hasty Pulse, with Palone and Burke behind her victory as well. Joe and Joann Thomson's Bay Pond Racing Stable owns the filly.
The last division saw an upset as Rideintothesunset and driver Brett Miller scored in 1:55.1, defeating another longshot, Mortgage Paid. Tim Pinske trains Rideintothesunset, a Western Hanover filly that he paid $45,000 for at last fall's Lexington Selected Sale.
