Pat Lachance wins 1,000th race

Pat Lachance, whose colors have a fair number of Yonkers Raceway victories over the past few decades, won the 1,000th race of his driving career on Monday night. Lachance and the 7-year-old mare Stormin'  Gal ($15) won the $6,000, fifth-race trot in 2:01.1, a length better than GS Spur. Lachance had come within one victory of the milestone when Longshaw Hanover ($7.50) won the $5,000, opening-race pace in 1:58.2.

The 32-year-old Lachamce, a native of Montreal, has been a Westchester fixture as both driver and trainer since the Raceway reopened in October, 2006.  His father, Hall of Famer Mike, was a dominant force here in the 1980s, as was his cousin, Luc Ouellette, a decade later. 

Through Pat Lachance's career, which began in 1995, his purses total nearly $11.5 million as a driver and more than $16 million as trainer. Lachance played the role of catch-driver for No.1,000, as Stormin' Gals is trained by Rich Campolong. (Yonkers)
