Paul Buer to open public stable

After working as private trainer for Joie De Vie Farm and Lindy Farm the past six years, Paul Buer has told harnessracing.com he is opening his own public stable. The Norwegian born Buer, 35, came to the United States in 2001 after being hired by Joie De Vie Farm, which had been advertising the job opening.

�I saw an ad in the Norwegian version of The Horseman And Fair World. (Joie De Vie) was looking for somebody and I got lucky and got that job,� said Buer. �I started with four horses the first year, 10 the second year, and then between 15 and 20 every year.�

Buer remained with Joie De Vie until last year when he went to work for Lindy Farms. Ironically, the man who replaced him at Joie De Vie, Oyvind Hegdal, is the Norwegian under whom Buer got his start.

�The economy for training in Norway was not that good so I thought it was better that I worked for somebody,� Buer remembered. �I was the second trainer for the man who trains for Joie De Vie now before I went on my own.�

Included among the horses Buer has trained are Ontario Sire Stakes winning Fan Favourite, New Jersey Sire Stakes winners Dream Angel and Nordicdish, and the highly-regarded Ecstatic and Blissed. Among his trainees in 2006 were the top trotters Xactly Hanover and Velma K.

Buer said he plans on buying yearlings at both Lexington and Harrisburg, and then he plans on being based in New Jersey over the winter before moving to Ontario next spring.

�We had some good horses and some good fillies and I worked for good people in the Nigitos (Joie De Vie) and then last year for the Antonacci�s (Lindy),� he said. �But it�s time for me to do my own thing. I�m excited about the opportunity. I�m still young and racing is going upward with slots everywhere.

�I�ll be based somewhere in New Jersey, and I plan on going to Canada in the spring and stay for the 2008 season there and then re-group. We always did real well in Canada.�
