Peaceful Way takes Flight

July 01, 2006 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Peaceful Way, Canada’s trotting queen, successfully defended her Armbro Flight Stakes title Saturday evening at Mohawk, as the dominant daughter of Angus Hall showed the field her heels in the late stages of the $347,250 event and powered off to a six-length score for driver Trevor Ritchie in 1:54.

Peaceful Way now sports 30 wins and over $2.6-million in career purse earnings.

Snazzy Millie and Ecstatic were the quickest off the starting gate and lead the field to the :27.2 opening quarter-mile. Peaceful Way was sitting third when Ritchie pulled her first-over in the second quarter. The 5-year-old was up to the challenge along the backstretch and cleared to the lead before the :55.4 half-mile marker flashed to life.

From there, Peaceful Way got a breather, as she passed the three-quarters timer in 1:25.4.

With the field looming as she straightened into the homestretch, Peaceful Way turned on the afterburners and dusted her rivals through the lane.

When asked if Peaceful Way would be taking on the boys once again this season, Tingley replied: “I think so. I’m never worried about the boys. I know she’s got the talent, but she might not get the trip that she always gets against the girls [when she faces the boys]. But, we’ll see what happens.

“The Breeders Crown is next month, so she’s got one start before that, so we’ll have to decide. There’s the Matchmatcher at the Meadowlands and then we’ll have to make our decision if we’re going to tackle the boys or stay with the girls.”

Peaceful Way is owned by Ontario residents Tingley, breeder Angie Stiller, Marvin Katz, Al Libfeld, Sam Goldband and the Goin My Way Stable of Pennsylvania.
