Pearl Queen wins 14th

Pearl Queen trotted to her 14th straight victory Sunday at the Vincennes racetrack in Paris, but she needed luck to win the French Criterium for 3-year-old fillies.

Pearl Queen was sent to the lead early in the 2,700-meter race, but Jean Michel Bazire made a surprisingly quick brush with Prince d'Espace and took control of the race until the middle of the homestretch. Pearl Queen edged to the front, but six horses crossed the wire iin a blanket finish, all timed within one-tenth of each other. Pearl Queen's mile rate time was 2:01.
