As of March 1, 2008, the Pennsylvania Harness Racing Commission will prohibit the use of and begin testing for anabolic and androgenic steroids in all Standardbred horses racing in the state of Pennsylvania. An acceptable plasma concentration of naturally-occurring testosterone and nandrolone has been established for the intact male horse.
The Pennsylvania Harness Racing Commission strongly suggests that trainers and veterinarians discontinue the administration of these compounds immediately to allow for elimination of these agents from the horse’s system prior to the March 1, 2008 deadline. (PHRC)
