"It's about to really heat up over here," were the words of driver Chuck Perry Jr. Perry would know about being hot, as he has been burning up the Ocean Downs track with eight wins already this season.

Wednesday, the racing fans at the Ocean oval witnessed Perry lay down a driving double as he won both the first and fourth races. Onedayatatime ($2.10), a 3-year-old filly, with only one previous race in her life, drove Chuck to his first win of the evening.

"I like her a lot. She won easy and proved to be above her competition," he said. "She will win quite a few in the future because she is a true racehorse."

Punkin Eater ($4.40) started in the eight hole, but still pulled in an amazing win. Crown Maker, another horse in the race actually stepped on Perry's tire and flattened it by the first quarter pole.

"It blew me away," he exclaimed. "As big as I am, that horse would have won by almost four lengths if my tire hadn't been flat."

Punkin Eater is an 8-year-old gelding.

Also pulling off a driving double was Sam Belote. Hurrikane Elly ($5.20) pulled him to his first victory; while 3-year-old filly, Coral Silk ($5.20) gave him his second win of the season.

"I didn't even know that I was going to be driving Coral Silk, but the judges assigned me to her at the last second, he explained. "But apparently I didn't need any practice time with her. She raced very good at the gate and never let up."

Hometown hero, Ray "Shorty" Robinson Jr. got his second win of the summer Wednesday. The experienced driver is now only eight wins away from the coveted 1,000-win mark. (Ocean Downs)
