The Pennsylvania Harness Horsemen’s Association has announced that the 2008 broadcast season of PA HarnessWeek will be extended through December 20. It will continue to air on Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia every Saturday, but startingon August 30, the time slot will switch from 1pm to 4 pm. The show’s final episode was originally scheduled for Aug. 23.
"We’re delighted to extend PA HarnessWeek beyond its slated 14 episodes," said PHHA president Earl Beal. “The show has developed a loyal following, both on cable television and the Internet, and our audience obviously wants to see it continue for the duration of the live racing season.”
The final episode will be a special program featuring highlights from The Second Annual Celebration of Pennsylvania Harness Racing, which honors the top harness racing participants statewide. This year’s awards are scheduled to take place on Saturday, Dec. 6, at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs.
Since beginning its run in May, the PA HarnessWeek television show has received some of the highest regional Nielsen ratings for paid commercial programming, as well as positive press coverage in the news and industry media. In addition, the show’s website--www.harnessweek.com also links to the PA HarnessWeek channel on YouTube.com.
Pa HarnessWeek is a weekly half-hour television program executive produced by the Pennsylvania Harness Horsemen’s Association in cooperation with Harrah’s Chester Racetrack & Casino and Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs. The show is produced by two-time Emmy Award winner Bruce Casella, former Throughbred host and producer for ESPN, and hosted by racing veteran Steve Ross alongside Shannon DiAnotnio, on-air racing analyst for Harrah’s Chester.
Each episode features a recap of the week’s harness racing highlights as well as segments on upcoming races, owner, driver and trainer profiles, human interest stories and rare, historic race footage from Brandywine and Libery Bell.
During the 2008 season, the show will air weekly at 1 pm through Aug. 23 and at 4 pm from Aug. 30 to Dec. 20 on Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia. Previously-aired episodes may also be viewed at www.harnessweek.com. (PHHA)
