The Wachovia Arena in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., will be renamed the Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza, thanks in part to the Pennsylvania Harness Horsemen’s Association’s (PHHA) partnership with the northeastern Pennsylvania track.
“We’re pleased to team up with Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs and glad they invited us to be part of this venture,” said PHHA president Earl Beal Jr. “This represents a great opportunity to broaden racing’s exposure in the region. It’s testament to the strength of our partnership that they allow us to share in the promotional opportunities associated with the naming rights.”
Ed Kobesky, the PHHA’s director of marketing, said, “Thousands of sports and entertainment fans from miles around stream into the arena every week. The opportunities to connect with them, and expose them to the fun and excitement of harness racing, are endless.”
The naming rights extend for a period of 10 years. Financial terms of the agreement were not
disclosed.
Since opening in 1999, the arena has become the region’s premier sports and entertainment facility, hosting not only the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins hockey team, but also national acts like AC/DC, Elton John, The Dead and many more. (PHHA)
