Pick 7 record at Woodbine

December 11, 2004 Send To A Friend  | Print View

For one lucky handicapper at Woodbine Friday night the holidays are going to be a lot more fun. He or she hit the Pick 7 which paid out a Canadian record $1,017,163.50 ( C ). Harness racing's all-time high payoff for a $2 wager came at Hazel Park on Sept. 17, 1988, when the Twin-Super (first four finishers in two races) paid $1,243,053.

The patron purchased his ticket from a SAM machine, correctly selecting the winners of the third through ninth races on the Woodbine card. The winners were: Race 3: #1 Magnify This ($4.00); Race 4: #7 Mighty Moses ($6.30); Race 5: #4 Sentbytheangles ($8.50); Race 6: # 2 Garish ($19.50); Race 7: #4 Successful Boy ($7.20); Race 8: #4 Gifted Seelster ($64.90); and Race 9: Motor City Match ($35.00).

The wager, which carries over from night to night when no one picks all seven winners (minus 25 percent of the pool which goes to those selecting the most winners), had not been hit all week. The carryover was nearly $590,000 going into Friday's card, and with the amount wagered it reached the historic plateau of $1 million.
