Pierce given warning

The Red Mile stewards held a hearing Saturday morning regarding the the Kentucky Filly Futurity raceoff Friday where driver Ron Pierce waved at Trond Smedshammer as he passed him in the stretch with eventual winner Passionate Glide, and issued Pierce a strong warning because of his actions.

Presiding steward Marc Guilfoil told harnessracing.com that Pierce was asked to explain his reason behind waving at Smedshammer, and Smedshammer was present to listen. Guilfoil said it was determined there was no malicious intent on Pierce's part, thus only a strong warning was given. Guilfoil said Pierce also apologized to Smedshammer and that it was accepted.
