Ideal Newton won the first elimination of the Thomas D’Altrui Miss New Jersey for three-year-old filly pacers Friday at The Meadowlands.  With Ron Pierce at the helm, the daughter of Western Ideal took the $20,000 elimination in 1:51.3, a new lifetime mark.  After sitting in the pocket, Ideal Newton posted a :26.2 last quarter to best race favorite Knock Three Times (David Miller) by a neck.  Cartniverous (Eric Goodell) held on for third while Cheyenne Trish (George Brennan) came up for fourth.  Ideal Newton, trained by Noel Daley, did not start at two but now has four wins in 10 starts for 2008 with just over $41,000 in earnings for owner Adam Victor & Son Stable.

The second elimination went to Erma La Em and trainer Steve LeBlanc in 1:53.  After getting away fifth to a :27.3 first quarter, Pierce pulled Erma La Em just past the half and steadily moved up the field till midway down the stretch, when she cruised on by second place finisher Good News Lady (Andy Miller).  McArts N Crafts (Mike Lachance) held on for third with Best Place (George Brennan) getting up for fourth.  Owned by Joseph Barbara of Huntington Station, NY, Erma La Em now has over $121,000 in career winnings.  The daughter of Cam’s Card Shark took a two-year-old mark of 1:58.2 at Freehold while earning $52,481.

The $200,000 Miss New Jersey Final will be held next Saturday, May 31.
