Pierce takes Dover features

January 30, 2007 Send To A Friend  | Print View

It was déjà vu all over again in Monday's double-feature events at Dover Downs. Just as the previous Monday, Fake Denario N in 1:50.1 and Black Cat Bone, in 1:52.4, both driven by Ron Pierce, turned in impressive victories in the $37,500 Preferred pace and $35,000 Delaware Special, respectively.

Maximum Viking and Jim Morand cut out the early pace with Fake Denario N and Lather Machine with Tim Tetrick getting away in the back of the select field of six in the $37,500 top pace of the week. Fake Denario N began to make his move on the backstretch and zoomed up to challenge for and get the lead. Pierce and the altered son of ill-fated Down Under stallion Fake Left were uncatchable in a :26.4 final panel for a 1:50.1 win and third consecutive victory.

Keystone Rodeo, last season's Horse of the Meet, closed along the passing lane for Brad Hanners to take second, ending a three-race winning streak. PH Top Dog with Tony Morgan, a newcomer to the feature this week, was a head back in third.

Outside post eight was no burden for Erika Paradee's Black Cat Bone in the $35,000 Delaware Special. The Sportsmaster 10-year-old gelding with Pierce at the controls left quickly and fell in fourth. Pierce moved Black Cat Bone up steadily on the outside to finally get the lead rounding the far turn and then held on for a 1:52.4 conquest, his second Del Special in a row and Pierce's second win of three wins on the program.

Four Starzzz Favor and David Miller led early and was second best. Art Director and Tetrick closed for show honors.

It's been a long time since Brian Sears drove a winner paying $60.60. Sears piloted The Cheyenne Gang's 29-1 Cheyenne Hollywood to a 1:52 triumph wining the $28,500 Open pace. Beware Beret (Pierce) and Nvincibl Artist (Tetrick) were second and third finishers in that order.

Ken Wood's Ross The Boss N left quickly for Roger Plante and never looked back streaking to a 1:51.4 score in a $22,000 winners-over pace. Archie Andres with Sears dashed down the lane to finish second. JT Arturo, driven by Miller and Tetrick-reined Southern Ruler N finished in a dead heat for third.

In another $22,000 winners-over pace, Bill Emmons who claimed Dreamfair Titan last week for $40,000, got an immediate dividend when Tetrick picked up his third win on the card driving a 1:51.4 mile. Coldheartedrevenge and Brandon Givens was second in front of Motu Hat Trick N and George Dennis. (Dover Downs)
