Plainridge to open

The Massachusetts House of Representatives late Wednesday night voted down a bill 100-55 that would have allowed slot machines at the state's racetracks, but approved an extension of simulcasting legislation through Dec. 31, which will allow Plainridge Racecourse to re-open.



Plainridge will re-open for live racing Monday, April 10. The track was supposed to open for live racing Monday, April 3, but was forced to close on April 1 when the House adjourned last week without voting on the extension. With state law then reverting back to 1970s legislation that precluded harness racing before 7 p.m., Plainridge was forced to also delay its live-meet opening since it does not have lights.
