Plan for NJSS 2YO purses

Return Home
July 11, 2006 Send To A Friend  | Print View

The New Jersey Sire Stakes will make an equitable distribution of purse money to the owners of 103 horses entered in 12 two-year-old races canceled at the Meadowlands on July 5 and 6, due to the budget impasse that shut down state government and forced the racetrack to be closed. The NJSS Board of Trustees has decided not to reschedule those races, citing the limited number of available racing dates left in the current Meadowlands meet.

In order to reach an equitable solution to the problem caused by the loss of those races, the board will make a pro rata distribution of the purse money funded by the Sire Stakes Program, as well as a refund of any starting fees that may have been paid in advance of the races.

The Sire Stakes contributes $78,750 to 2-year-old pacing races at the Meadowlands and $66,000 to the 2-year-old trotting divisions. Based on those amounts, the per horse distribution for the various divisions will be as follows:

Two-year-old pacing colts, 24 horses in three races, $3,281;
Two-year-old pacing fillies, 18 horses in two races, $4,375;
Two-year-old trotting colts, 22 horses in three races, $3,000;
Two-year-old trotting fillies, 39 horses in four races, $1,692.

All horses entered in the lost preliminary legs will receive one point and earnings credits for the above amounts that may be utilized to determine eligibility for the $175,000 divisional finals on July 12, 13, 19 and 20. The first criteria in determining eligibility for the finals is points earned in the series and the next criteria is money earned in the series. In the event that two or more horses remain tied after those criteria are applied, a blind draw shall determine placings.
