Pocono hosts Reynolds 3-year-old colt trots

Lear Jetta stayed unbeaten in 2008 with a W.N. Reynolds Memorial Stakes win on Monday afternoon at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs, the races being the highlight of Grand Circuit Week at Pocono.

Lear Jetta (Lindy Lane-Missy Hadagal) overcame an outside post to beat eight other 3-year-old trotting colts and geldings in 1:55:1 on a track listed only in "good" condition. Trained by Robert Myers and driven to victory by Tim Tetrick, Lear Jetta won for the sixth time in as many starts this year and for the 16th time in 18 lifetime races. The win pushed his career earnings over $469,000.

In Focus, another 3-year-old trotter who came into Monday’s Reynolds action unbeaten in 2008, broke stride early on in his division and ended up finishing sixth. Taking advantage of the situation was Star Ledger (Yankee Glide-Sweet Love Story), who trotted home a winner in 1:55.2 with Steve Smith in the bike for trainer Karen Garland.

Overall there were three Reynolds divisions held on Monday at Pocono for 3-year-old colts and geldings on the trot, with purses ranging from $27,035 to $27,436. There were also seven $20,000 divisions held for 2-year-old fillies on the pace.

The day’s fastest winning time among the Reynolds freshman fillies was turned in by TSM Opal Star T (Jate Lobell-TSM Black Pearls), who won in 1:53.4 for trainer Jan Fread and driver Tony Hall. Other 2-year-old filly pacing division winners were Mintjulep Bluechip (Bettor's Delight-B J's Sunshine, 1:54.4, trained by Ross Croghan and driven by John Campbell); Celebrity Tango (Allamerican Ingot-Finlandish, 1:56.2, trained by Staffan Lind and driven by Tetrick); Market Dynamics (Pro Bono Best-Go Abby Go, 1:55.3, trained by William Popfinger and driven by David Miller); Nikajah (Four Starzzz Shark-Bella Balucchi, 1:55.3, trained by George Teague Jr. and driven by Brian Sears); Perfectionist (Western Ideal-Sounds Perfect, 1:54.1, trained by Jimmy Takter and driven by Ron Pierce); and She’s Everything (Badlands Hanover-Theatrical Hanover, 1:54, trained by Teague and driven by Sears).

The remaining 3-year-old trotting Reynolds division was won by Reputation (Lindy Lane-Lady Of Love), who trotted the mile in 1:55 with Roger Hammer in the bike for trainer Walter Dunn. (Pocono Downs)
