Pocono orders 2,000 slots

Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs officials reportedly told the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board Monday that 2,000 slot machines have been ordered, one-third less than the 3,000 machines the racetrack could install. The announcement came at the first slots casino license hearings in Pennsylvania Monday, Sept. 11.

Pocono Downs’ chief executive officer Robert Soper told the board that additional machines would be ordered in business warranted it. He said a decision would be made after the slot machines go into operation.

The board is scheduled to make its decision on the conditional license applications Sept. 27, with a decision of permanent licenses to be made in December. Officials at Pocono Downs have previously stated they hoped to open a temporary casino by the end of the year.

Gaming Board director’s concluded the two-hour hearing by telling Soper they have found nothing in the way of character and financial issues and licensing requirements that would preclude a license being issued.
