Poll shows large support for Maryland slots referendum

A poll conducted by the Washington Post says that 62 percent of likely voters are in favor of passing the slots referendum that will be on the Nov. 4 ballot in Maryland. According to the newspaper’s Wednesday edition, 36 percent of the voters would vote against the proposal and only two percent are undecided.

Maryland voters have been waiting to vote on the issue since late last November when the Maryland legislature approved putting the referendum on this year’s ballot. The legislation would allow 15,000 slot machines spread out over five locations in the state, including Ocean Downs in Worcester County and Laurel Park racetrack in Anne Arundel County. Seven percent of the slots revenue is slated to go to purses at all of the state’s racetracks.
