Battleshoe Victor ($8.60) barely edged pacesetter Brick by a nose Wednesday at the Isle Pompano Park in winning the $14,000 feature trot.
The race started off with Guy Gets Girl and driver Bruce Ranger going for the early lead but Brick and Mickey McNichol also wanted to get to the front on the outside and succeeded by the opening quarter mile in :27.3. Battleshoe Victor and driver Anthony Napolitano were content to race in third place.
After passing the half-mile marker in an easy :58, Napolitano pulled Battleshoe Victor first-over in the backstretch and they started moving up towards the race leaders at the three-quarter pole in 1:27.2.
Then in the stretch it was a neck and neck two-horse battle to the wire and it took the photo finish camera to separate the two horses as Battleshoe Victor won over Brick by a scant nose in 1:57. Guy Gets Girl was third.
It was the fifth win this season for Battleshoe Victor. The 6-year-old gelded son of Valley Victory is trained by Tom Harmer and owned by the Ciara Stable and Michael Polansky. (Pompano Park)
