Pompano changes conditions

April 05, 2007 Send To A Friend  | Print View

After meetings and discussions with horsemen and the Florida Standardbred Breeders and Owners Association (FSBOA), Pompano Park is altering the conditions of its races, effective Friday, April 6.

"Our race secretary, Greg DeFrank, and his assistant, Anthony Clark, have done a great job in redesigning our race conditions here at Pompano Park," said Steven Wolf, senior director of racing operations.

"With the mutual approval of our horsemen, these new conditions will allow for nearly every horse to be raced each week,” Wolf continued. “It gives the race office more control in making our race cards much more competitive, it adds more emphasis on claiming events, horses won't be left out due to preference dates, and there will be less changes weekly in the condition sheets."

There will only be two conditions offered for both the trotters and the pacers–non-winners of $1,500 in their last five starts (NW1500L5) and non-winners of $2,500 in their last five starts (NW2500L5). Any condition horses that do not fit the NW1500L5 or NW2500L5 condition will be placed in the "Isle Mile" classification, which will be grouped by the racing office and offer purses of $10,000, $8,400, $6,800 and $5,500.

Pompano Park will continue to offer races for younger horses (i.e. non-winners of one pari-mutuel start, non-winners of two pari-mutuel starts, winners of two-three pari-mutuel starts, etc.) as well as claiming events and conditioned claiming events.

Any claiming horses that are entered for a price of $7,500 or higher have the option to be included in the "Isle Mile" if their claiming race does not fill and they denote an alternate event. (Pompano Park)
