Pompano Park, which will open for its 44th season of live racing on Friday, Sept. 14, will host an afternoon of non-wagering Sunshine State Stakes on Saturday, Sept. 8. The South Florida oval will also hold qualifying races on Tuesday, Sept. 4, and Friday, Sept. 7, in preparation for the upcoming meet. The third leg of the Sunshine State Stakes for all eight divisions of Florida-bred juvenile and sophomore trotters and pacers will begin at noon on Sept. 8. Entries for each of the Sunshine State Stakes must be made to the race office by 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 5, with driver changes declared by Sept. 6, also at 9 a.m. Total purses for the day are estimated at $65,000. Free programs for the Sept. 8 Sunshine State Stakes non-wagering card will be available at Pompano, and the concession stands on both the second and third floor of the grandstand will be open. Horses looking to qualify at Pompano on Sept. 4 must be entered in the race office by Friday, Aug. 31, at 9 a.m. due to the holiday weekend, while the entry box closes at 9 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 6, for the Sept. 7 qualifiers.
