Pompano hosts Fla. finals

It was a case of "two out of three ain't bad," at Pompano Park Saturday night as Dee Day Fame and Florida Boy came up winners in their respective Florida Breeders Stake finals to share in the $100,000 FSBOA bonus, but What A Pearl came up just short in her heat to miss out in earning a cut.



Dee Day Fame won the $60,295 final for 2-year-old colt and gelding trotters, completing the sweep of four Florida-bred finals and bringing home what turned out to be a $50,000 bonus to owners Anthony Amante and Christine Garrity. Wally Hennessey was in the sulky behind the son of Famously for the 2:02 victory. Trained by George Harp Jr., the win was Dee Day Fame's fifth straight and seventh overall in 11 attempts.



Florida Boy, with co-owner Brian Sears in the bike, was an open-lengths winner in 1:54.4 in the $67,883 final for 2-year-old colt and gelding pacers. Sears and his partner, father Jay Sears, will also receive an additional $50,000 as their share of the bonus money.



A gelded son of Raging Glory, Florida Boy posted a career best in winning his seventh straight race after opening up his career with a third-place finish. Kim Sears does the training.



As for What A Pearl, the 2-year-old filly trotter had to settle for a close second in her $63,295 final, unable to hold off the late charge by Doc's Krista. Jay Sears was in the bike behind What A Pearl as she had her bonus hopes dashed by the Wally Hennessey-driven Doc's Krista in 2:04. The winner is a daughter of Guided Speed trained by Robert Williams Jr. and owned by Andy Roberts.



The stakes-filled night of racing began with Amethyst easily winning the $62,820 final for 3-year-old filly pacers in 1:54 for driver Hennessey. The 1-9 favorite scored for the 13th time in 17 starts this year. Trained Rod Lorenzo co-owns the daughter of Miami Mogul with Keisers Oberman Stables.



Williams trains and also drove Greatest Of All to a 1:56.1 victory in the $58,116 final for freshman filly pacers. Amelia Williams owns the daughter of Miami Mogul who won for the sixth time in 10 starts.



Paper Exchange notched his seventh straight victory in the $61,808 final for 3-year-old colt and gelding pacers. Bruce Ranger trains and was in the bike behind the son of Ditch Em for owner Fred Monteleone Stable.



Trainer James Martin took the trotting hobbles off Cracker Sue and the 3-year-old filly responded with a convincing 2:00.2 victory in her $61,858 final. Tom Sells drove the winning daughter of American Patriot for owner Russell Peavyhouse.
