Catalina Morgan ($3.60) scored her seventh win of the season in the $16,000 Open Handicap Pace for fillies and mares Tuesday night at Pompano Park. Driver Denis St. Pierre piloted Catalina Morgan to the first quarter in :28 and over to the half in :57.3. As they paced by the three-quarters in 1:25.2, Anthony Napolitano pulled Lucy Lucy to challenge Catalina Morgan in a head-to-head battle. Catalina Morgan dug deep as they turned for home to win by 1 1/2 lengths in 1:54 over Hypnotize (Dan Clements) finishing second, and Lucy Lucy finishing third. This is the second straight win for the 6-year-old mare by JB Stena in the top open pace. Catalina Morgan is trained by Marc Major and owned by Richard Berthiaume of Canada. It was a training double for Major, also winning the fillies and mares $10,000 claimer with Pounne De Luxe in the first race for owner Robert B. Arcouette of Florida. (Pompano Park)
