Pompano record tied

Hyde Park Hussie N tied the track record for mares with a 3 1/2-length triumph in 1:51.4 at Pompano Park Harness Track Friday in the $10,000 Preferred-Handicap Mares Pace. Kadijah first set the record in 2003. The race also saw the end to Chip And Gale A’s five-race winning streak as she finished fourth.

The featured race started off with Hyde Park Hussie N and driver Bruce Ranger shooting out to the early lead from post three with ICU Miss (Walter Ross, Jr.) right on their backs. But by the opening quarter mile in :27.2, driver Wally Hennessey had Tasma Walton A in command. That lead was short lived as Ranger came right back to the front with Hyde Park Hussie N, who then led the field to the half mile mark in :56.3.

As they raced down the backstretch, Hyde Park Hussie N held the field at bay as the 1/5 race favorite, Chip And Gale A (Daryl Bier) started up first-over but then flushed cover from ICU Miss before the three-quarter mile mark in 1:24.1. But Hyde Park Hussie N was not to be denied and she pulled away from the field to tie the track record. ICU Miss was second with Tasma Walton A third.

It was a lifetime mark and the third win this year for Hyde Park Hussie N. The 8-year-old mare by New York Motoring is trained by David Deuschle and owned by the Deuschle Racing Partners of Wellington.
