Anthony Napolitano and Battleshoe Victor won the $16,000 Open Handicap Trot Monday at the Isle Pompano Park, pushing his lifetime earnings over the quarter-million-dollar mark. The 6-year-old Valley Victor gelding had to make up a lot ground before taking the victory. Andy Santeramo and Oratorio took the early lead and was sitting on top by five lengths when they reached the first quarter in :27.1. As they trotted over to the half-mile marker in :55.1, they were still in command by six. Napolitano and Battleshoe Victor, sitting second, accelerated as they blew by Oratorio down the backstretch and trotted over to the three quarters in 1:25.2. As they turned for home for the final time Battleshoe Victor rolled on to win in 1:55.2 by 5 1/2 lengths over Farmer Jones (Denis St. Pierre) and Catamount N (Dan Clements). It was the seventh win this year for Battleshoe Victor who is trained by Tom Harmer and owned by Michael Polansky of New York. (Pompano Park)
