Management at the Isle Casino & Racing at Pompano Park announced today that the new racing surface will be ready for their opening night program on Friday, Sept. 14. Pompano had begun a major renovation of the track surface in late August, then brought in Dan Coon of Charles E. Coon & Sons on Tuesday, Sept. 4.
According to Pompano officials, horses will be training over the new surface early next week. Due to the delay in getting the track ready, there will be a 60-day rule in effect for qualifying standards for older horses and any Florida-bred 2 and 3-year-olds entering the Florida Sunshine Stakes will not need to be qualified to enter.
