Two eliminations were held for the Canadian Breeders Championships for 3-year-old filly trotters at Mohawk Friday night and last year's Dan Patch filly of the year in the division, Poof She's Gone, was beaten by Emmylou Who.
Poof She's Gone, who was making her first start since finishing third in the Elegantimage final, was being driven by Paul MacDonell instead of her usual driver, David Miller. The duo got off to a very bad start when the filly broke stride behind the gate and was still 14 1/4 lengths behind the field when the leader hit the seven-eighths mile marker.
Meanwhile, Ruling Class, a filly by Angus Hall trained by John Bax, set the pace before trainer-driver Lyle MacArthur sent Emmylou Who to the front down the backside. The filly by Ken Warkentin took control of the race and eventually won by a 6 1/4-length margin in 1:54.4. Poof She's Gone finished fourth, beaten eight lengths.
The victory by Emmylou Who was her first of the season in nine starts, but she had been second in four previous races, including the Elegantimage and Casual Breeze (both times beaten by Ultimate Cameron).
The second CBC elim for the 3-year-old trotting fillies was won by Cross of Lorraine in 1:54. The filly by Angus Hall is trained by Carl Jamieson and was driven by his son, Jody. The victory was the filly's sixth in eight starts this season.
