World-champion 3-year-old filly trotter Possess The Magic has drawn post one in the first of two $50,000 Hambletonian Oaks eliminations Saturday at the Meadowlands. With arch-rival Pampered Princess entered into the Hambletonian, Possess The Magic rightfully inherits the role of favorite among the 15 distaffers entered in the Oaks.
Possess The Magic is trained by Ron Gurfein and driven by Mike Lachance. With a mark of 1:54.2 and earnings of $697,540, she was last year's richest freshman trotter regardless of sex. Her 1:54.2 score at The Red Mile last fall was the fastest ever trotted by a juvenile.
A daughter of Self Possessed, Possess The Magic is owned by Brittany Farms. In five starts this year, Possess The Magic has two victories, her biggest coming in the $175,000 New Jersey Sire Stakes final. In her most recent outing on July 13, she finished second to Pampered Princess in the $350,000 Delvin Miller Memorial final at the Meadowlands.
