The Florida-bred gelding Railee Possible once again asserted his supremacy over the older trotting division at Pompano Park when scoring his second consecutive victory in Monday’s $15,500 Richard Gaucher Memorial Open I Trot. Driven from post four by Dan Clements, Railee Possible settled in fourth place as Kyle E Koyote (Bruce Ranger) was quick off the gate to take the early lead in the Monday feature, trotting through an opening quarter mile in :29.2. As the field marched past the grandstand for the first time, Railee Possible was angled off the pylons to begin an extended first-over journey, tracking Kyle E Koyote from the outside as that rival reached the half-mile pole in :59 and the three-quarters marker in 1:28. Midway through the final turn Railee Possible pushed his way to the front, entering the stretch with a two-length advantage before holding off a modest late bid by Talk About Me (Robert Williams Jr.) to prevail by 1 ˝ lengths in 1:57.1. Railee Possible returned $3.60, $2.40, $3 for the victory. Talk About Me brought in $4.60, $3.60 for second, while Muscular (Dave Mercer) paid $2.80 for third. Owned by Frank and Inge Smith of Deerfield Beach, and trained by Veral Bowman, Railee Possible has won six of 13 starts this year, while hitting the board in 11 of those appearances. The gelding is a 5-year-old son of Anythings Possible, out of the Donerail mare Railee Super. Monday’s featured event from Pompano was named in honor of longtime harness racing owner and breeder Richard Gaucher of Boynton Beach, who recently passed away at the age of 80. Gaucher was a member of the USTA since 1983, and was also a member of the Florida Standardbred Breeders and Owners Association. Friends and family members were on hand for the memorial and were invited to the winner’s circle for a special blanket presentation following the race. (Pompano)
