Ryder Steck, the son of Ron and Kila Steck, is still in an induced coma at Grant Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio. Ryder, 18, suffered head trauma, a broken back, a broken hand and a severe leg wound when he was in an auto accident early Sunday morning. Ron Steck is a well-known Ohio horseman and his wife's family has also been involved in racing. Her sister is Darla Gaskin, wife of Indiana horseman Ernie Gaskin.
A family friend advised harnessracing.com that Ryder did not suffer any spinal cord damage and his hand and leg wounds have been treated.
To follow his recovery, Facebook members can go to the Facebook Event Page "Ryder's Fighters." A prayer service is being held on Friday night (Aug. 1) where Ryder attends school, Highland High School, at 6 pm. There will also be fund-raising to help the family with medical expenses that will not be covered with insurance.
