Preps to Sand Vic, Holborn

Return Home
September 30, 2006 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Sand Vic, leaving from the outside nine post in the $10,000 Allerage Farms prep race for older trotters, scored a 1:54 victory and Holborn Hanover kicked off cover to take the pacing Allerage elim in 1:49.3 at The Red Mile Saturday afternoon.

While the skies were still a clear blue, Brian Sears drove Sand Vic to the horse's ninth win of the year, nine more wins that he had all of 2005.

Finishing second in the prep, in which all nine starters will return for next Saturday's final, was a late-rallying Sir Perseverance. Mr. Muscleman, making his first start in just over a year, closed up the inside to finish third.

August Fredrik Miedel owns Sand Vic, a 5-year-old son of Mr. Vic. Trond Smedshammer trains the winner of $1,723,752.

Ponder appeared to be in control of the Allerage field of older pacers coming off the last turn, holding an open-lengths lead, but Holborn Hanover had more pace and swept past his rival for the victory. Hop Sing came up the inside to take third.

Holborn Hanover is the sport's all-time fastest performer, setting a standard of 1:46.4 this year on Hambletonian Day at the Meadowlands.

Whodunit, driven by Marcus Johansson, finished last and was the only horse not to advance to the Allerage final.
