Prewitt named KHAA executive secretary

The Kentucky Harness Horsemen's Association has made their decision for the position of executive secretary. After interviewing 14 applicants, the KHHA directors chose Gabe Prewitt at their board meeting on Monday afternoon, April 19. Prewitt's appointment comes after the death of former KHHA executive secretary Bill Napier last month.

Prewitt, a University of Kentucky graduate, is a harness racing enthusiast. While attending UK he worked in the mutuel department at The Red Mile, and has been a Standardbred owner of such notable horses as Otherpeoplesmoney. The 27 year old currently has the duties as the announcer and publicity director at The Red Mile and also works for Thoroughbred Times in advertising.

Prewitt's energy and passion for harness racing is very transparent. As he assumes his new role, he stated: "I understand that I have some big shoes to fill and a lot of work ahead, but I'm looking forward to getting to know the horsemen of Kentucky and building relationships."

His plans are simple; to hit the ground running and move things into the future. "I want to get things going in the right direction," he said.

As we spoke to Prewitt by phone, he is currently making arrangements to make regular trips to the other two harness tracks in Kentucky--Bluegrass Downs and Thunder Ridge. His trips to Bluegrass Downs will include opening weekend which begins in two weeks. He will make his way to Thunder Ridge during its live meet when it begins in June.

Don't be surprised if you receive a phone call from Prewitt, as one of the things he says he wishes to do is contact each member of the KHHA. He says, "I will listen to anyone with any concerns and try to address their needs."

Although he was a little surprised, he is very excited about his new position, as he knew there were 13 other people vying for the job. Prewitt went on to say that he feels honored to serve the horsemen and women of Kentucky and is happy to have the opportunity. (from Terry Cullipher)
