Primary As euthanized after injury

Return Home
August 25, 2007 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Primary As, who crossed the wire fifth in the Yonkers Trot, injured himself in the stretch drive and was later euthanized. It appeared that the colt injured at least one tendon, but the reason for the horse's death has not yet been confirmed.

Trainer Trond Smedshammer was driving Primary As and pulled him up after the crossing the wire. The horse was taken off the track by a horse ambulance and sedated before he was loaded onto Smeshammer's van and then taken to a nearby veterinary hospital.

Primary As was a 3-year-old son of Malabar Man with almost $250,000 in earnings and five wins in nine starts this year. He was owned by Kittelsen Racing Stable.
