Primetime Bobcat hurt

December 18, 2006 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Former world champion pacer Primetime Bobcat has reportedly suffered a tendon injury, which occurred at the start of the Open Pace at Woodbine Saturday night.

"He injured the tendon sheath which protects the tendon area," Anthony Montini, who trains and co-owns the pacer with Basil Michele and William and Joseph Rogers, told Standardbred Canada. "Early indications are optimistic, but it's hard to tell how much damage is done. Further diagnosis won't be available until Tuesday."

Montini added he and the rest of the connections remain optimistic about the 9 year old's recovery.

"He's not in a lot of distress and his spirits are good," said Montini. "He's actually walking slightly sore, but he's not crippled by any means which is a good sign. We spent a lot of time with him last night to get him comfortable. He seems good right now, but lots can happen in the next little while. We'll keep our fingers crossed and do what we can for him."

The 2006 Woodbine Entertainment Group Older Pacer of the Year, Primetime Bobcat set a world record last May when he won at Woodbine in 1:47.2. That clocking was bested in August by Holborn Hanover's 1:46.4 effort.
