Winless in 12 previous starts for his career, Peaceful Prince performed like a winner's circle veteran Tuesday at The Meadows, leading every step in a $10,000 division of the second leg of the West Chestnut Street series. Peaceful Prince, who missed his entire 3-year-old campaign, faced tough stakes company as a freshman and amassed $29,374 in lifetime earnings without taking a mark. That streak ended Tuesday when Brian Zendt gunned the son of Lindy Lane to the top on a "sloppy" rack.
Peaceful Prince scored in 1:59 by 3 1/2 lengths over Tripdownmemorylane, with Paradise USA finishing third. Bill Zendt trains Peaceful Prince for Harmony Spring Stable and Gary Saul.
In the other $10,000 division of the late-closing series for 3- and 4-year-old colts and geldings, Pembroke Lane and Mike Wilder carved out a pocket trip to fashion their second consecutive series victory. Axson Hanover, who led until mid-stretch, and Gambler Springs completed the ticket. The winning time was 1:59. Randy Bendis trains Pembroke Lane and owns the horse with William Varney. (The Meadows)
