Prince Of Luck surprises in Dover Preferred

Return Home
December 18, 2007 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Prince Of Luck, Art Director and Glass Pack won the top three events on another strong 15-race card on a windy Monday at Dover Downs.

The result of the $35,000 Preferred Pace was as easy as one, two, through five. Prince Of Luck from post one pulled a 5-1 surprise as Ross Wolfenden picked up his fourth win of the night. The 5-year-old Camluck gelding led a cavalry charge down the stretch to hold off Bullion Bill A and Eric Goodell zooming down the passing lane to score a 1:51.4 victory in the feature race.

Quality Western led early for Tony Morgan and fought off the odds-on favorite Fake Denario N and Tim Tetrick after the half until the turn for home. Quality Western held on for third with Immortal Quest N, piloted by Eddie Davis Jr. besting Fake Denario N for fourth as the select field of five starters finished in post parade order.

Art Director won the $32,500 Delaware Special won for the second straight week. Rusty's For Real with Davis driving, cut out the pace until halfway down the lane when Brian Sears shot Art Director along the passing lane to score a 1:52.1 victory sending the Artiscape horse, owned by Kovach Stables, over the $600,000 mark in career earnings. Noble Tess closed strongly for Jim Morand to take second with Beware Beret and Eric Goodell the third place finisher. Yogi Bare was scratched.

Glass Pack, a recent six-figure purchase by Louis Schaefer and Peter Heffering, put in a stout performance to win the $26,000 Open Pace. The 3-year-old Cole Muffler gelding held off Dream Rocket, piloted by Morgan, second, and third-place finisher Ross the Boss N and Roger Plante in the 1:52 mile.

Racsan John, owned by Don Hawk and trainer Dan Warrington, fought off a near mile-long challenge from Lather Machine and Kevin Sizer to notch a victory in one of the $20,000 winners-over paces. Vic Kirby drove the homebred to his second win of the year. Lather Machine was a game second with Black Cat Bone and Sears coming on for third.

Midnight Walk won another $20,000 winners-over with Wolfenden driving for Rodney Long and Tim Hundertpfund. JJ's Artiscape was next in front of pacesetter Grinfrombeertobeer and Morgan.

New racing strategy by Mattazuma paid off again. Driven right to the front for the second straight outing by Tetrick, the former come-from-behind gelding was never headed in a 1:53 triumph in the third $20,000 winners-over pace. It marked the eighth win of the season for the winner and second win of the night for owner Bill Emmons and trainer Dylan Davis. Hot Lather sat second the route with Goodell. XLB Joker and George Dennis finished a solid third. (Dover Downs)
