Print It, owned by former Minnesota Twins manager Tom Kelly, was parked to the quarter in the $10,000 Open Pace at Rosecroft Raceway on Monday, May 14, but survived the game of hardball to earn his fifth seasonal victory with a mile in 1:52.2. After Blissfull Silence (Trevor Stafford) charged off of the gate to attempt the lead, Print It, driven by Frank Milby, confronted the front-runner. The 5-year-old gelded son of The Panderosa, trained by Don Milby, stood up to the challenge after a swift opening quarter of :27.1. Print It held strong through middle fractions of :55.4 and 1:24.1 to win in impressive fashion. The gelding upped his lifetime earnings to over $182,000 with this success and now sports a line of 5-3-4 across the board from 18 seasonal starts. After sitting in last to observe the action on the front end, Sleep Easy made his move after the three-quarter pole with driver Corey Braden at his lines. The 5-year-old Dream Away horse paced four wide into the final turn to rush home for a second-place finish. Co-owned by Tom Cooke and trainer Roger Hans, Sleep Easy is a very classy horse with over $485,000 in lifetime earnings. Supreme Dan, co-owned by Arty Foster and trainer Eric Foster, worked out a supreme trip for third, making up ground along the rail during the late fractions of the mile. Driver Vic Kirby expertly steered the 6-year-old Camluck gelding through traffic to close out the $180 trifecta. Betting favorite JJ’s Artiscape turned in a valiant effort with a first-over trip midway through the mile. The talented 6-year-old Artiscape gelding, driven by Donnie Russell, tipped out to challenge Print It, but failed to catch the fast pace set by the winner. Trained by “Doc” Davison Jr. for owners Mayanne Karmin and Sydell Stone, JJ’s Artiscape finished fourth after winning in 1:52.4 last week. (with files from Rosecroft)
